Tua Tagovailoa Shines in Dolphins’ Victory Over Patriots | Game Recap

Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins blew past the New England Patriots 34-15 to extend their winning streak to three in a row on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.

After scoring four times in the 2nd quarter, the Miami Dolphins went into halftime with a 24-0 lead. Following a sack fumble Zach Sieler, Tua Tagovailoa connected with Jaylen Waddle for a 23-yard touchdown pushing their lead to 31.

New England would score twice in the 4th quarter, as Drake Maye found Austin Hooper wide open for a 38-yard touchdown and Christian Gonzalez took a fumble recovery 63 yards for a score, but the game was far out of reach.

Miami added a late field goal with 3:33 remaining just for insurance and walked away with their third straight victory.
The Dolphins were led by Tua Tagovailoa, who managed to dissect the Patriots’ defense. Tagovailoa recorded 317 yards and 4 TDs on 29/40 passing attempts.

Jaylen Waddle led the Dolphins in receiving yards, as he was nearly uncoverable for the New England secondary. Waddle compiled 144 yards on 8 receptions with a touchdown.

Jonnu Smith gathered 87 yards on 9 receptions and a TD. Tyreek Hill added 48 yards and 5 receptions.

De’Von Achane was productive on the ground and on through the air rushing combining for 56 yards with 2 TDs.

On defense, Miami only allowed one score while sacking Patriots QB Drake Maye four times. Jordyn Brooks led the team in tackles with nine total and added a TFL.

Chop Robinson assisted in keeping fellow rookie Drake Maye under-pressure by gathering 4 total tackles, 1.5 sack, 3 QB hits, and 2 pass deflections.

Tyrel Dodson completed 5 tackles and caught a late game interception.

For England, they were led by Drake Maye, who at times seemed to be their only sustainable contributor on offense. Maye had 222 yards, a TD, and an interception on 22/37 passing attempts.

DeMario Douglas recorded 62 yards on 5 receptions. Tight ends, Austin Hooper and Hunter Henry, combined for 103 yards, 9 receptions, and a TD.

With this win, the Miami Dolphins keep their playoff hopes alive and are 3-2 since Tua Tagovailoa returned in late October. Meanwhile, with this loss, New England fell to 3-9 and seem to be taking steps in the wrong direction.

Penalties and Undisciplined Play Lead to Another Patriots Defeat

In their blowout loss against the Miami Dolphins, the New England Patriots failed to play without shooting themselves in the foot. New England was penalized 10 times costing them 75 yards.

As a team that has struggled all year, the Patriots cannot afford to be an undisciplined team making self-enforced errors, which keeps them out of games.

Against the Dolphins, the Patriots committed 6 pre-snap penalties with 5 of them being on offense.

“It starts with me,” said head coach Jerod Mayo. “We’ve had these hiccups of games where the penalties really affected us.”

“Once those guys cross the white lines there’s nothing I can do for them,” said Jerod Mayo. “Theres nothing any coach can do for them, when they cross the white line. It’s my job to continue to prepare not only them, but our coaches to go out here and play better football.”

Though New England continues to find ways to lose games, rookie QB Drake Maye expressed that he believes the team can improve and use these loses as experience in the future.

“It’s tough. Anytime you’re losing,” said Maye. “Losing sucks. I told the guys to remember this feeling. We got our butts whooped today. I think it’s only up from here and we got bright future and bright players.”
