Miami Dolphins End Losing Streak Against Struggling Patriots 15-10 | Game Recap

The New England Patriots drop their 4th game in a row as they fall short to the Miami Dolphins 15-10 Sunday afternoon at Gilette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

After a 3-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Huntley to Alec Ingold, the Dolphins took a 15-10 lead with 4:24 left in the 4th quarter. Following a turnover on downs and a punt, New England had one final chance to win the game with less than a minute left.

On the first play of the final drive, Jacoby Brissett completed a 21-yard pass to Kayshon Boutte to enter Miami’s territory.

After rushing to spike the ball, Brissett would drop back again to connect with Hunter Henry for 25 yards, but the Patriots’ offense could not get to the line of scrimmage fast enough to clock the ball ending their potential game winning drive 11 yards short of the endzone.

The Miami Dolphins were led by their defensive effort that only allowed the New England offense to score twice.

Miami’s secondary of Jalen Ramsey, Marcus Maye, and Jevon Holland combined for 19 tackles and 4 pass deflections. Before the Patriots’ final offensive drive, the Dolphins secondary only allowed 114 yards through the air.

Emmanuel Ogbah and Zach Sieler orchestrated the Dolphins destructive pass rush. Ogbah and Sieler combined for 2 sacks and 4 QB hits.

On offense, Tyler Huntley went 18/31 passing for 194 yards and an interception. Tyreek Hill recorded 6 receptions for 69 yards.

Miami’s rushing offense hit on all cylinders against the tough Patriots defense as Jaylen Wright and Raheem Mostert totaled for 166 yards on 32 attempts.

With this win the Dolphins snap their three-game losing streak to move to 2-3 on the season.

For New England, both running backs Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson were very productive. They combined for 141 yards on the ground on 18 carries. They both averaged over 7 yards per carry.

Jacoby Brissett finished 18/34 on passes for 160 yards.

DeMario Douglas, who becoming a focal point of the offense, recorded 6 receptions for 59 yards.

The standout cornerback, Christian Gonzalez, intercepted his first ball of the year and added 6 tackles with 2 pass deflections.

Daniel Ekuale gathered 9 total tackles, 0.5 sack, a TFL, and a QB hit.

The Bad, the Ugly, and the Patriots Offense

The New England Patriots continue to face offensive woes as they failed to score more than 10 points against this Miami defense that has allowed 20 or more points in their last three games.

Though this injured offensive line didn’t play perfect, allowing 2 sacks and 9 QB hits, Jacoby Brissett is still struggling when given time in the pocket.

According to PFF, Jacoby Brissett completed 8-13 passes for 58 yards on un-pressured drop backs.

“We’re making plays, we’re just shooting ourselves in the foot,” said Jacoby Brissett. “We’re going one step forward to go twenty steps back. We can’t do that”.

So far this season, New England offense isn’t playing winning football. They have only scored 20 points or more once and have scored just 5 touchdowns in the first 5 games.

“We have to score more points,” said Jacoby Brissett. “In the short term, that’s what we have to do. We have to score more points”.

“We just have to be better from an execution standpoint,” said Jerod Mayo. “We have got to be able to execute situations. We have got to be able to execute on a play-by-play basis”.

In this game versus the Dolphins, the Patriots committed 12 penalties that cost them 105 yards. For a team that struggles to create explosive plays, these penalties are very costly and hurt their chances to win tight games.

“We talk all the time about pre-snap and post-snap penalties,” said Jerod Mayo. “It just wasn’t a good day”.
