San Francisco Cruise Past New England 30-13 in Decisive Fashion | Game Recap

The San Francisco 49ers dominate the New England Patriots on both sides of the ball to seal a 30-13 victory Sunday evening at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

After a turnover filled first half, a late 63-yard field goal from Joey Slye would finally put New England on the scoreboard, as they trailed 20-3 entering halftime. Then on the kickoff to open the 2nd half, San Francisco’s Isaac Guerendo would fumble on the return and Christian Elliss recover to put New England in scoring position.

The Patriots then went on a quick five play drive and reach the endzone after a 5-yard touchdown pass from Jacoby Brissett to Austin Hooper to make it a 10-point game.

San Francisco would response swiftly, as after a 53-yard reception by Deebo Samuel, Jordan Mason punched it in from 4 yards out to push the score to 27-10.

After both teams traded field goals, Nick Bosa, who pressured Brissett all evening, finally got to the QB and forced fumble to secure the 49ers second victory on the season.

San Francisco was led by forceful defensive front. Kevin Givens gathered 2.5 sacks, 3 total tackles, and 1 TFL. Maliek Collins compiled 1.5 sack, 3 total tackles, and 2 QB hits.

Nick Bosa recorded 5 total tackles, 1 sack, 1 QB hits, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Fred Warner, who missed the 2nd half due to an ankle injury, finished with 7 total tackles and an interception returned for a touchdown.

Brock Purdy conducted the way for the 49ers’ offense passing for 288 yards on 15/27 attempts with a touchdown and an interception.

Jordan Mason added 123 yards on 24 carries with a touchdown. George Kittle caught 4 passes for 45 yards and a touchdown.

With this win, San Fracisco bounces back from there heartbreaking 3-point loss last week against the Rams and avoid losing 3 games in a row.

For New England, Jacoby Brissett recorded 168 yards on 19/32 passing with a touchdown and an interception.

Antonio Gibson assisted in bringing life to the passing game catching 3 balls out the backfield for 67 yards.

Jabril Peppers finished with 7 total tackles, 2 pass deflections, and an interception.

 More Self-Inflicted Errors

The woes continue for the New England Patriots as they turn the ball over for a season-high three times and struggle to protect Jacoby Brissett in the pocket.

Rhamondre Stevenson fumbled for the fourth week in a row, after only fumbling the ball once all last season and only four times in the previous three seasons.

Brissett fumbled 3 times, losing one of them, against the 49ers and threw an interception on a play where he had Ja’Lynn Polk open near the sidelines.

“Offensively, we don’t have a team that can lose the turnover battle and expect to win a football game,” said Jerod Mayo. “We’ve got to do a better job with the turnovers. We’ve got to do a better job with the negative plays”.

This week New England could only amount to 216 total yards and reach the endzone once. They sparingly got offensive drives going, but then would either turn the ball over or got stiffed short of the 1st down.

“We can’t spot them two turnovers,” said Jacoby Brissett. “We can’t put our defense in a bad position like that. I think that’s where it really starts. It come back down to the fundamentals and execution. We really beat ourselves.”

“We’re not good enough to play against ourselves and the defense,” said Brissett.

Keeping the QB clean has also been a major issue for the Patriots this year, as Brissett has been taking a beating behind a worn offensive line. So far this season, Patriots’ QBs have been sacked 17 times and hit 40 times.

“Schematically, we’ve got to do a better job at getting the ball out of our hand,” said Jarod Mayo. “Secondly, I would say that the offensive line just has to do a better job at holding up in protection”.

The struggling New England offensive line took two huge losses, as center David Andrews and left tackle Caeden Wallace both left the game.

For the second week in a row, the Patriots defense failed to keep opposing QBs in the pocket. In the past two weeks, Aaron Rodgers and Brock Purdy were able to scramble outside and find receivers open after plays looked to be broken down.

“We want our most dependable players out there, especially when it is a huge target,” said Jarod Mayo. “We have targets on our backs. Can’t keep the quarterback in the pocket. Can’t take control of the football. So, we’re going to deal with it until we fix it and it starts with me”.
