The New England Patriots lose 10-7 to the New York Giants as game typing kick goes wide left to earn 9th defeat of the season at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ on Sunday.
The Giants had a chance to extend their 10-7 lead late in the 4th quarter, but a quick 3-and-out gave New England a chance to win or tie the game. After traveling 33 yards downfield, New England set up their kicker, Chad Ryland, for a 35-yard game tying field goal.
Ryland lined up for the kick only for it to go wide left.
With this loss, New England has dropped their last four games and will go winless through the month of November. The Patriots have not won a game since they defeated the Buffalo Bills 29-25 on October 22nd.
For the Giants, this win earns them their second win in a row after falling in their previous three contests. This also gives them their 4th win of the season to move to 4-8 on the year.
New York were led by their defense, who forced three turnovers and only gave up one score. Bobby Okereke, Xavier McKinney, and Deonte Banks all caught interceptions for the Giants. The New York defense has caused at least three turnovers in their past two games.
In addition to their interception, Bobby Okereke and Xavier McKinney were big in creating stops for the Giants. Okereke recorded eight total tackles with two pass deflections. Meanwhile, McKinney added ten total tackles with two pass deflections.
The Giants also received a much-needed effort from rookie Jalin Hyatt on offense. Hyatt racked up five receptions for 109 yards on six targets. Hyatt was responsible for over half of the Giants yards through the air.
No Improvement Through the Bye Week
The New England Patriots offense had a struggling performance, which has become the expectation 12 weeks into the season. Mac Jones was benched in favor for Bailey Zappe for the second straight game, as Jones time as starting QB may be over.
Jones threw for 89 yards on 12/21 passing with two interceptions. Zappe, who came in at halftime, gathered 54 yards on 9/14 passing with an interception.
“Bad quarterback play,” said Mac Jones. “Wasn’t good enough by me. If the quarterback doesn’t play well, you got no chance”.
For the fourth time this season, the Patriots offense has failed to put up more than seven points. New England are 1-7 when they score less than 20 points.
“We all just have to do a better job,” said David Andrews. “We have to play better as a football team. Turnovers, all that is team involved. We have to be better as a football team and better as an offense”.
Though the Patriots offense struggled for most of the game, many players for New England managed to shine. Rhamondre Stevenson continues to be a key member of the Pats offense. He had 98 yards on 21 carries and scored the sole touchdown for New England.
Rookie Demario Douglas also remains a highlight on offense. He caught six passes for 49 yards before he sat out due to a head injury received after making contact with a Giants player on a punt return.
Next Week
New England return home next week as they welcome Justin Herbert and the LA Chargers on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Giants go into their bye week with a win. New York will face Green Bay in their next game on December 11th.
