Canelo Alvarez Defeats Jermell Charlo to Maintain Super Middleweight Throne

Canelo Alvarez (60-2-2) coasts to unanimous decision (119-108, 2x 118-109) victory against Jermell Charlo (35-2-1) to retain the Undisputed Super Middleweight crown at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday.

Canelo Alverez pressured Jermall Charlo throughout the bout, landing many jabs and power punches. Alvarez landed 56 of 189 jabs and 78 of 196 power punches. He also targeted Charlo’s midsection, successfully landing 42 body punches.

Canelo was able to score a knockdown in the 7th round when he landed his explosive right flush forcing Charlo to take a knee.

After Canelo Alvarez faced criticism for his performance in his last bout, Canelo wanted to showcase that he is still the amongst the sports best.

“This Canelo, nobody can beat this Canelo”, said Canelo Alvarez.

Canelo also said that he wanted to return to the ring next year in May against any willing opponent.

Jermell Charlo, who moved up two weight division, was hesitant to throw shots this bout, which helped Canelo stalk him and constantly cut off the ring. He landed 40 of 283 jabs and 31 of 115 power punches.

“You could feel the difference in the weight. I jumped up 14 pounds”, said Charlo. ” I was daring to be great right now. You fall short sometimes, but you got to keep on pushing”.

After the bout, Charlo insisted that he would continue to pursue the biggest bouts by calling out Terrence Crawford.

“I want to fight Terrence Crawford”, said Charlo. ” Let him fight Errol Spence or whatever they got going on, get that out of the way, I’m waiting”.

With this victory, Canelo Alvarez becomes the 1st boxer ever to defend all four championships (WBO, IBF, WBA, and WBC) three times in the four-belt era.
