Texas Will Make The CFP
It’s one thing to beat Alabama, it’s another to march into Tuscaloosa and rip their hearts out. The Longhorns scored 21 points in the fourth quarter, walking out of Bryant-Denny Stadium victorious. The Longhorns will go as Quinn Ewers goes. Adonai Mitchell, Xavier Worthy, and Ja’Tavion Sanders are the real deal. They’ve checked off Bama, now it’s TCU and a sneaky matchup against Houston. If Texas stays out of their own way, they have a great chance to win the BIG 12 Championship and earn a spot in the CFP.
ACC Will Come Down to Miami and Florida State
Miami Hurricanes
Coming into the season the Miami Hurricanes had the 5th best odds to win the ACC. After Saturday’s win against Texas A&M and now Bethune-Cookman University they’ve turned some heads. The Hurricanes offense hasn’t looked this potent since 2016. If the Hurricanes are able to stay consistent and healthy they should be able to cruise through the ACC, even beating North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
The Canes will meet FSU on November 11th and if they manage to upset the Seminoles, Miami should be taken seriously. Led by Tyler Van Dyke, this team is looking like one of the best in both the ACC and all of college football. The surrounding weapons and the defense can lead this Canes team to their first ACC Championship in program history.
Florida State Seminoles
Florida State has looked fundamentally sound through both games this season. Coming into the season LSU and Clemson looked like the two teams who stood in the Seminoles way of a CFP appearance. They took care of business week one and will meet a Clemson team that has underperformed so far. Now, the Duke Blue Devils and Miami Hurricanes will be the toughest test for Mike Norvell’s team.
At this moment, FSU looks like the best team in the ACC and is well deserving of their top three ranking in the Top 25. As long as they continue to handle business the Seminoles will be a nightmare for anyone they matchup against.
The Big Ten is Wide Open
Penn State Nittany Lions
Many believed it would come down to Ohio State and Michigan to win the Big Ten and make the CFP. The Nittany Lions have shown they’re on the same level or maybe even better than the other two teams. To be the best you have to beat the best. It’s easier said than done but they’re capable of making it happen. Through the first two weeks, they’ve looked like the most talented and complete team in the Big Ten. Don’t sleep on the Nittany Lions and they could see their first CFP appearance this season.
Michigan Wolverines
Powered by Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards, Michigan has the best running duo in the country. In the last two seasons, the Wolverines were able to get over one of their biggest obstacles, The Ohio State Buckeyes. After two consecutive wins against their rivals and a Big Ten Championship last year they believe they’re ready for the next step. They fell short in last year’s Playoff Semifinal, but this could be the year they finish the job.
Ohio State Buckeyes
The Buckeyes haven’t looked their best, mainly due to their issues up front but you can’t count them out. They still arguably have the best wide receiver group in college football, but if they don’t get involved this team won’t make it as far. The test will be next week against 9th-ranked, Notre Dame on the road. It’s only a matter of time before the Buckeyes get rolling, and when they do they’ll be one of the toughest in the nation.
The PAC-12 could see Two Playoff Teams
As of now, it looks like USC will represent the PAC-12 in the CFP but this conference is wide-open and probably the best in the country. Behind USC there are seven teams ranked in the Top 25. Washington (8), Utah (12), Oregon (13), Oregon State (16), Colorado (18), Washington State (23) and UCLA (24). The rankings will shuffle as the year goes on. However, there is a possibility that two PAC-12 teams could make the CFP, if both teams finish with one loss. The PAC-12 is loaded with talent and will continue to get better as the season goes on. There is no longer a clear-cut winner in the conference.
